SEO the Shortcut Way Leads to the Loophole Black Hole
Search engine optimization (search engine optimisation if you're in the UK), SEO actually involves quite a lot of hard work - but the rewards can be great, so it is well worth putting in the hard work & effort. Like all activities which are hard work but can be lucrative, there is a great temptation to look for shortcuts & loopholes. I'm writing this article from my own previous experience, over the past 10 years that I've been involved in internet marketing, I have tested various loopholes & shortcuts that have been sold to me as amazing new ways to get results, faster, quicker, with less time effort & cost. I have never done this with clients website however, I have only ever risked new strategies I've been unsure of, on my own test projects. I consider myself to by whiter than white hat, but there have been numerous tools & techniques over the years that I have deemed to be worth looking into. What I have found, with all of the shortcut techniques & loopholes that I have tried - is that they may work well, for a period of time - but only until the loophole is closed. Once this happens, guess what happens to all of the results you'd managed to achieve using this loopehole? They get sucked into what I call "the loophole black hole" along with all of the time & effort, and money, that was invested - and, in some cases along with ALL of the time & effort that was put into promoting your website on the search engines - because in some cases websites can be penalised or even de-indexed once the search engines discover that there has been cheating going on. What you have to remember, is that Google, MSN, Yahoo, in fact all of the search engines, are businesses - their product is high quality relevant content, and their customers are visitors who use their search engines to search - web site owners are involved in a relationship with the search engines which, as all relationships do, operates on a give & take basis. You give the search engines high quality relevant content that they can give to their visitors, and in return, they give you traffic. When search engines discover that websites have been involved in ways to cheat them into giving to you traffic, without receiving, they do NOT like it. Lets face it, any business who found out that someone was tricking them into giving without receiving, would be pretty annoyed, and would probably not want to continue that relationship. So when they discover that a website has been achieving artificially high ranking by using a loophole, or any technique they see as shortcuts & cheats, they will usually ensure that any rankings the website currently has, go back down to what they should be naturally without using the loophole, and sometimes they will go further and de-index all together. What I refer to as the loophole black hole, is the time & effort, and rankings, that are eventually lost as a result of using loopholes & shortcut. So - if you don't want your hard work & efforts and any results you've already achieved to be swallowed up by the loophole black hole, stick to good old fashioned safe, white hat SEO, and steer clear of the shortcuts - if it seems too good to be true, it usually is!
